Hey Vickie,
I don't know if you remember but I bought your CD "As Written" after playing a few "Just Plain Folks" shows with you.
I really enjoy your original music and love your voice. Hopefully some time I will get a chance to come out and see and listen to you again.
My band, Frank Porter's Problem Children, has been doing some shows lately. We're opening for Taylor Hicks on July 30th at Crocodile Rock in Allentown, PA.
Love and Peace,
Frank

I heard the Monet song from your upcoming CD on Mix 97 on 5/5/10, I truly loved it!
As I told you after seeing you perform today, I think your songwriting is exceptionally good, and your performances and presentations of each individual piece were splendid. I wish you continued success and look forward to future performances.
What can I say? Your music continues as it always was for me, a penetrating leap to hyperspace that takes me straight to my heart of hearts -- Taking me away from my momentary concerns to some special place of beauty, sensitivity, awareness, humor and yes pathos. Such beautiful stuff. I am touched and find my cheeks wet with tears. Your gift is so special.
Vickie,
Knock him dead on Saturday. You're wonderful and everyone will love you on Saturday night.
Relax, take a deep breath, and just enjoy yourself. You deserve it.
Best Regards,

It's been a while since I listened to Welcome Home, since I've been enjoying Next a LOT. But you did it to me again Vickie! I hear Overwhelmed and Welcome Home, and the tears start once again. How wonderful to create something that can touch others so deeply, while singing and playing so beautifully.
I have been listening to your CD's in my car going back and forth from work and lovin' it. I love the musical arrangements that include other instruments, it enhances your part and makes for a more fuller sound. I especially enjoy the harmonica in "Manville". So, I have come from being supportive and encouraging to a TRUE FAN. In taking the time to listen to your music over again has made me realize how truly talented you are....your voice, the lyrics and the music of each song is creative and unique. Not like a lot of "artists" where every song sounds alike. You have been given a G-d given gift and have developed upon that beautifully.
May you have many years of inspiration and creativity to do what you love.
Fondly,
Mindy | | |
Vickie,
Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed your show at the Wayne Public Library! My wife and I also caught you when you were in Fair Lawn, NJ last month. I bought the 2 cd's you brought and look forward to hearing more of your music on future cd's and live. Thanks again for your performance and personal rapport with the audience.

Vickie Russell
Next
"Every Day Is A Miracle"
Time flies and some times it's a good thing. While it may not seem like five years since Vickie's last CD, Welcome Home, it's still been a long wait for those of us who truly enjoy the products of her craft. On Next, Vickie dishes up a dozen new tracks in her signature Pop/Pop-Country style, only this time she has definitely taken it up a notch. As good as her last CD was, this one is better. The band is tight and right on with a heapin' helpin' of mind-grabbing hooks and excellent solos, her vocals are strong and solid and the production is impeccable. Vickie's songwriting pulls tales direct from the "life happens" department, and that means she never misses a chance to weave in a little of that observational humor that she's known for. Hopefully, it won't be another five years before Vickie's next CD, but if so, this one is plenty good to hold us over.
"Painted by Monet" is such a magically beautiful song. I loved it the minute I heard it. I even felt compelled to write and article about it on HubPages:

Vickie Russell has come a long way from sharing the stage with 10,000 Maniacs, Donovan, Rick Danko, Leon Russell, and Richie Havens. Her latest release called "Next"™ is a brilliant testament that Vickie has flourished into a major force in music.
| | |
Vickie's new CD Next is a wonderfully refreshing accomplishment and reveals her very diversified talents. She covers a wide range of original songs from sentimental ballads to humorous country style to tender personal family tales, all with a crisp clear voice and excellent high caliber accompaniment, recorded and produced impeccably. I found it to be a very enjoyable 43 minutes of music that fits almost any mood or occasion and will change your frame of mind to a positive one if you need a lift.
Joy,oh joy....another of Vickie Russell's melodious, heartrending, and often uplifting, CD's has exploded on the scene once again.
Yard sales, diner divas, the dating game- the ordinary stuff of life turns riotously funny in Ms. Russell's clever hands. Often with classical overtones, her eminently hummable melodies linger in the ear of one's memory day after day, long after the last note has played.
Vickie: We were introduced to your wonderful music tonight in your opening set at the Paramount in Peakskill, NY. You and Dave were fantastic. I of course bought your CD at intermission, and you very kindly signed it (I could not locate Dave to do so as well). Although I enjoyed all the songs you did, given my own humorous songwriting and performance bent (check out my site, www.LawTunes.com), I got the biggest kick out of "Manville." Very clever and entertaining. Anyway, thanks for a great night from a couple of new fans in Westchester. -- Lawrence Savell
WELCOME HOME A Welcome Addition, April 9, 2006
Of course there are any number of musical hotbeds around the country, but those of us in Upstate New York can count ourselves especially lucky to have such a wide array of musical talent. Whether it's our proximity to "the City" or (in my own area anyway) our even closer proximity to Woodstock, I can't say for sure. But I can tell you that as someone who co-sponsors musical events at a regional library, we have benefitted greatly from having such an extensive pool of musical talent.
One act that we were fortunate enough to have play for us recently was regional singer-songwriter Vickie Russell. Ms Rusell is a strong singer and a fine keyboardist. Her songs ranged from the ethereal, somewhat Nyro-esque "Angel" to the sassy blues-inflected "Manville." (Both of which appear on this--her second--CD).
Like many of our better contemporary singer-songwriters, Ms Russell achieves a nice balance between the introspective and the playful. And while a number of her composition might fall into the "confessional" vein of songwriting (your "break up" and "make up" numbers), Ms Russell does not just limit her themes to the romantic sphere. One of the best songs on the album, for example, is the moving tribute to her father--who became a Kindertransport refugee to this country at age 10--that is a sublime mix of the personal and the political (in the broadest sense of the word).
An equally moving tribute, this one to the late Rick Danko formerly of the Band and until his untimely death, a regular fixture of the Upstate New York music scene, is offered up in the song "Take Care of You." In a plain spoken narrative, Ms Russell describes the generosity of spirit and concern toward younger up-and-coming performers this celebrated musician exhibited right up until the time of his death.
Vickie is joined by Danko's fellow "Band-mate" Garth Hudson on this track--who is excellent as always--but the level of overall musicianship displayed by Ms Russell and her accompanists on this CD is stellar. In her concert here, Ms. Russell was accompanied on guitar and bass by her husband David Michael Peters, an accomplished musician and recording artist in his own right. In a small concert venue, such as ours, the arrangements were a bit more spartan--but equally as effective as the studio arrangements found on the CD.
Live or on record, Vickie Russell is an impressive performer and songwriter. She deserves to be heard by a larger audience. Until then, we in the Northeast can consider her our little secret.
I want to take this opportunity to let you know that my family and I thoroughly enjoyed your concert at the Middle Country Library a few weeks ago. It's a wonderful thing when a couple in their forties and their two children, ages 11 and 15, can go to a concert and all have a wonderful time! We bought your CD and we keep playing it over and over again in the car (which is where we seem to spend most of our time, driving the kids to activities!). I think my favorite is Welcome Home - I can't seem to listen to it without shedding a tear. Thanks for making such beautiful, heartfelt, meaningful music. We look forward to hearing about your future concerts.
Hi Vickie,
I heard you on WAMC last month, and immediately ordered "Welcome Home" (that's unlike me to do that, so it's quite a compliment). What a talented woman you are! I love your voice. Your piano playing is wonderful. And what you compose is amazing. I enjoyed "Longing for You", then found myself crying in recognition of the beauty in life you write about in "Overwhelmed". More grateful tears in "Welcome Home". Each song is special. And I love the way you included touching as well as humorous pieces. Manville really put a smile on my face. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. I'm adding my name to your mailing list right now!
